Marvin Harrison Jr. is one of the best wide receiver prospects I have scouted in recent years. Like father, like son, playing wide receiver comes naturally to him.
His game has savviness and a veteran vibe to it. Harrison Jr. creates natural separation with his understanding of leverage and nuanced route-running. He does a fantastic job using tempo and pace with his routes to keep defenders on their heels. Proper usage of footwork helps him move defensive backs off their spot and free the designated track for his route.
Harrison Jr. is a three-level threat that defenses must account for. He sells the fast/hard vertical stems to free up underneath route concepts working back toward the quarterback. His best trait has to be his ball tracking and ball skills. Harrison Jr. uses his outstanding catch radius and body control to make highlight-reel plays on the ball. He can turn 50/50 jump balls to 75/25 contested-catch situations.
The Ohio State wideout has to continue to expand his release package versus press-man coverage. He can get stuck fighting through contact during the drive phase of his route. Harrison Jr. could benefit from improving his punch timing and landing against physical press coverage to quickly enter the route stem. Although he is a three-level receiver, high-caliber athletes will be able to stay in phase and not lose a footrace.
