Marvel's most impressive movie of 2025 is a popular streaming hit ahead of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Read on for more details.
2025 wasn't the easiest for the MCU, as the post-Endgame theatrical struggles continued. Sure, a hugely disappointing Captain America: Brave New World arguably deserved its poor box office run, but most Marvel fans were more than pleased with the year's other two offerings.
Alas, Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps were similarly unsuccessful financially, although the latter at least returned over $500 million against a $200 million budget, albeit with many previously expecting it to close in on the billion-dollar mark. 2026 is ready to right the wrongs of the MCU's 2025, headlined by the blockbuster release Avengers: Doomsday on December 18. The cast for the movie is one of the most Marvel-ous ever assembled, led by Robert Downey Jr.'s return to the franchise.
However, the Academy Award winner won't be donning his Iron Man costume, instead controversially starring as the villainous Doctor Doom. The film will also mark the second outing for Marvel's first family, as Vanessa Kirby, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach's new Fantastic Four all feature. They will be joined by the likes of Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Tom Hiddleston, Florence Pugh, and many more.
In anticipation of Doomsday's release, fans are getting in the mood by re-watching the movie many consider to be the MCU's best of 2025. At the time of writing, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is one of the ten most-streamed movies on Disney+ in the U.S. The movie doesn't rank in the current top ten worldwide, but a tenth-placed Avengers: Infinity War and seventh-placed Avengers: Endgame suggest fans across the world are starting to get back in the mood, seven months out from the clock striking Doomsday.
