Yahya Abdul Mateen-II in Wonder Man
Marvel’s new Disney+ series is making headlines in all the best ways. Fans were taken aback when it was announced that Marvel would release all episodes of Wonder Man as a binge drop — it marked the first time this had happened for an MCU show.
It proved to be a smart choice, though, when the show debuted with a strong 89% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s even been a hit among fans, scoring a 91% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter. Wonder Man has also stormed to the top spot on Disney+ global charts, where it's #1 in more than 25 countries worldwide. Wonder Man has been hailed as Marvel’s replacement series for The Studio, and the similarities are pretty glaring. There may be some superhero shenanigans in Wonder Man that are completely absent in The Studio, but both shows still pull back the curtain and shine a light on what it’s like making movies and TV shows in Hollywood. They even feature actors like Anthony Mackie and Joe Pantoliano playing versions of themselves, and they reference real-life events and movies. While there are certainly some differences, fans of one show are likely to enjoy the other. Wonder Man stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, a struggling Hollywood actor who is trying to find a career for himself while also hiding his superpowered nature. Along his journey, he runs into Trevor Slattery , who previously played The Mandarin in Iron Man 3. He even returned to star in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings a few years ago, which also hails from writer/director Destin Daniel Cretton. Cretton is also working on Marvel’s next Spider-Man movie, Brand New Day, which is coming to theaters this summer. Does ‘Wonder Man’ Have a Post-Credits Scene? Wonder Man does not have a post-credits scene, which is a bit of a departure from traditional Marvel projects, which often tease what’s coming next with a short scene during or after the credits. However, this isn’t all that uncommon for Marvel Spotlight projects, which are more disconnected from the wider MCU narrative and tell a more focused story. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has been asked about Simon Williams’ status in future projects like Avengers: Doomsday several times, but he is staying unsurprisingly tight-lipped about his MCU future.
