Marvel's Return of the Jedi era is imminent.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Since the second era of Marvel'sStar Wars comics began, the line's primary focus has been on meticulously filling in the gap between the Original Trilogy films. Now, the franchise finally appears set to arrive back at the events of Return of theJedi. As a result, Marvel has several storytelling opportunities that could define the trajectory of the franchise – at least in the comic book medium – moving forward.
Marvel published Star Wars comics from 1977-1987. After several nebulous years, the franchise found a home at Dark Horse Comics in 1991, resulting in what can be considered a "Golden Age" for Star Wars comics . After twenty-seven years, Marvel became the publisher of Star Wars once again; in the time since, the company has consistently met, and at times even exceeded, the high bar set by Dark Horse.
When it comes to the Star Wars franchise, many fans take the idea of the "Expanded Universe" very seriously – that is, they want it to be widened, to be made larger, rather than smaller. Marvel has taken the opportunity to do this, while also going deeper into everything from the tensions within the Rebel Alliance to the Imperial legal system. This has been one of the core virtues of the rebooted Star Wars continuity, especially in the comics.
Marvel's reacquisition of the publishing rights to Star Wars was a homecoming; the company was the original publisher of Star Wars comics, starting with the 1977 adaptation of the original movie. The decade-long run of Marvel Star Wars comics also included adaptations of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
Marvel Has Committed Years To A Meaningful Build Toward "ROTJ" The Year Between "Empire" & "Jedi" Was Eventful Close Even within the confines of the Original Trilogy...Marvel has managed to introduce new concepts, and new energy, into Star Wars . Anticipation continues to build for what the company can do with the wide open swaths of post- ROTJ timeline that the new Disney canon has yet to fill via other mediums.
Marvel Can Tell More Great Stories Around The Events Of "Return" Star Wars Can Deliver Another Remix Of A Classic Close Before this era is officially history once more, Marvel should seek to do everything they possibly can with the lead-up to, and events of Return of the Jedi.
