The MCU seems to be repeatedly sidelining Baron Zemo, a major villain whose presence and impact are crucial to many comic storylines. This article discusses the character's absence in recent projects and the missed opportunities to explore his depth.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe, or MCU , boasts a vast roster of recurring villains, each possessing varying degrees of complexity that contribute to the rich tapestry of the franchise. Some of these antagonists have become integral to the narrative, their actions and motivations shaping the fates of heroes and the overall direction of the MCU .

It's therefore particularly disheartening when the importance of certain key villains is diminished or, worse, completely omitted from adaptations of comic book storylines. This has become a recurring pattern with one of Marvel’s most significant villains, a situation that unfortunately seems to persist in recent projects. This treatment represents a missed opportunity to fully explore the depth and impact of a character pivotal to the Marvel Comics universe.\ The most recent instance of this disappointing trend can be seen in the upcoming series, Wonder Man, where the character of Baron Zemo, a cornerstone of many major storylines in the comics, is completely absent. In the comics, Zemo plays a critical role in the origin and development of Wonder Man, transforming him and subsequently manipulating his actions. The series, however, sidelines this vital connection, omitting Zemo entirely and leaving out the explanation of Wonder Man’s powers. This isn't the first time the MCU has overlooked Zemo's significant role. In a previous project where Zemo should have been a key player in the narrative, he was again excluded. This adaptation saw Valentina Allegra de Fontaine taking on the role that Zemo traditionally fills, forming a team of faux heroes with villainous intentions. Zemo’s absence, in this instance, deprived fans of a crucial element of the story. Despite the actor portraying Zemo having given an amazing performance in previous projects, his appearances have been infrequent. \Looking ahead, the future of Zemo in the MCU remains uncertain. The character’s fate is currently unclear. His imprisonment on The Raft in a previous movie leaves his potential return ambiguous. Given the previously announced projects, there doesn't seem to be a clear path for his return. There is a possibility that he could appear in unannounced projects. The character is also an excellent fit for Marvel Zombies, which takes place in a different universe, providing a potential avenue for his return. The hope is that the MCU will recognize the importance of Zemo and give him the focus he deserves. It would be refreshing to see the MCU incorporate the character into stories that highlight his crucial role in Marvel Comics, offering a richer and more faithful adaptation of the source material. A comic-accurate team of supervillains pretending to be heroes, orchestrated by Zemo, could be an interesting approach. Hopefully, the MCU will correct course and give Zemo the focus he deserves sometime soon
