A weird MCU villain trend continues in I Am Groot.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT As it continues to tread the line between silliness and severity, the MCU Phase 5 is continuing an odd MCU villain trend with I Am Groot season 2.
I Am Groot season 2 has just been released, and it follows Baby Groot as he navigates the universe one mini adventure at a time. Each episode is around five minutes long, which doesn't leave much time to churn out Easter eggs, but as his coming-of-age continues, so does one weird MCU villain trend. The latest example can be found in Season 2, Episode 4: "Groot's Sweet Treat," and concerns gargantuan cosmic entities and ice creams.
I am Groot Turns Arishem Into An Ice Cream A handful of villains carry a truly threatening presence in the MCU, with a notable gap between certain MCU villains' power levels. In the Multiverse Saga, Kang the Conqueror is one of them, while Arishem the Celestial was another first introduced in MCU Phase 4's Eternals.
Groot's Sweet Treat follows Baby Groot's desperate attempt to catch a passing ice cream truck spaceship, culminating in Groot enjoying an Arishem popsicle. While the idea of rendering an ultra-powerful world-ending being into nothing more than an ice cream is unusual, this isn't even the first time the MCU has done this.
I Am Groot's Thanos Easter Egg Explained Making a mockery of Thanos' nefarious deeds seems to have become its own trend within the MCU, as another scene in I Am Groot Season 1 depicts him in cartoon form on the front of a book as Groot engages in some bathroom reading. The title of this book is written in Kree and translates to "Dumps Happen." Presumably, the premise of this book is to demonstrate how even supervillains like Thanos need to visit the restroom every now and then.
