Thanos could have been a hero if he lived on Mars.

Warning! This article contains spoilers for X-Men Red #15 Thanos is one of the most formidable villains in the entire Marvel Universe, as he’s proven to not only be capable of conquering entire worlds, but also tangling with the likes of cosmic gods. As an Eternal with an infusion of Deviant genes, Thanos is a being of immense power, though what makes him deadly is his desire to obtain forbidden knowledge, his insatiable bloodlust, and his obsession with death.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Thanos Rising by Jason Aaron and Simone Bianchi detailed Thanos’ childhood growing up on Titan with his fellow Eternals. Given the difference in his physical appearance, Thanos was already an outcast who was ridiculed by his peers. That social barrier would only become more pronounced as he got older, when it became increasingly clear that he didn’t belong in this world with these people.

Mars Would Have Accepted Thanos Where Titan Tried To Suppress Him In X-Men Red #15 by Al Ewing and Yildiray Cinar, the X-Men are assisting the indigenous life forms of Arakko in a Civil War, and this comic gives readers a bit more insight into the culture the X-Men are simultaneously fighting alongside and against.

If Thanos’ natural inclination towards death and violence was celebrated rather than suppressed then he could have let it out in a healthier manner. Thanos would have likely become a revolutionary on Arakko against the tyrannical forces of the planet's ruling class, and perhaps even become its ruler himself.

Everything that made Thanos Thanos wouldn’t have been taboo on Arakko like it was on his homeworld of Titan. Since a great number of Arakkii who were raised this way are now heroes fighting alongside groups like the X-Men, it’s fair to say that Thanos could have been a hero himself if he’d just been born on Mars.
