Martin Lewis has given an update on HMRC problems after thousands of people said they had not been paid their child benefit on Monday. People started contacting HMRC on Friday to say it appeared the payment would not be made on Monday, with thousands raising concerns over the weekend.
HMRC said there was no problem and hat people should check their accounts. On Monday morning they eventually acknowledged there is a problem and they are looking into it. Finance guru Martin Lewis ran a poll for his fans on X and found 80% of people who were expecting a payment have not had one. He said: "After my Twitter poll earlier which indicates 80% of those expecting child benefit payments this morning haven't got them, we contacted HMRC. It's told us... - 30% of people who should have been paid today haven’t been , this still likely means huge numbers of people.
"It requests people DON'T call it right now about this . - Once the issue has been fixed, if people are out of pocket, they should complain to HMRC for redress . "
