Martha Stewart's iconic line from a 2002 television interview has resurfaced in a humorous Uber Eats Super Bowl ad featuring Matthew McConaughey. The commercial playfully references Stewart's infamous meltdown during a cooking segment when she was facing scrutiny for an insider trading scandal.
Martha Stewart and her greens are back on the chopping block — this time, for a Super Bowl ad. The lifestyle mogul appears in Uber Eats ' 2025 Super Bowl ad alongside Matthew McConaughey, shared on the food delivery platform's YouTube channel on Jan. 30. The commercial served up a comedic nod to one of Stewart's most awkward on-air moments. The spot recreates an infamous exchange from a 2002 appearance on CBS News' “The Early Show.
” At the time, Stewart was under scrutiny for an insider trading scandal, and she was appearing in a cooking segment with the show's co-host, Jane Clayson, who pressed her on the controversy. Stewart grew visibly frustrated, ultimately shutting down the conversation with the now-iconic line, “I just want to focus on my salad.' Over two decades later, she now repeats that same phrase in a new Super Bowl spot ahead of the big game on Feb. 9. “So tell me about your salad, Martha,” McConaughey says in the clip as Stewart calmly prepares a Caesar salad. “Well, it’s a Caesar salad,' she replies as she chops lettuce. 'In a bowl!' McConaughey explains, to which Stewart answers, 'Obviously.' “I know what you’re up to. This is a super bowl,” he says. At this point, Stewart stops to ask the actor what he's getting at. “Well, a super bowl is at Caesars to help you sell your Caesars during the Super Bowl, is it not?' McConaughey counters, referring to where the upcoming Super Bowl is taking place, at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. Martha then does a bout of manic chopping before she steadily insists, “I just want to focus on my salad.” “Oh I’m focused, Martha, I’m locked in,” he replies before stealing a glimpse and a wink at the camera. Martha's 2024 Netflix documentary titled 'Martha' looks back on her intense reaction and more, as it sifts through her rise, fall — which included jail time — and rebrand. Not long after the documentary’s debut on the streaming service, Stewart criticized director R.J. Cutler’s focus. “Those last scenes with me looking like a lonely old lady walking hunched over in the garden? Boy, I told him to get rid of those. And he refused. I hate those last scenes. Hate them,” she told the New York Times in October 2024.
