How’s the clubhouse? It feels like the arrow is pointing up but there’s not a lot of huge expectations. How’s the mindset there right now? “We just try to play hard every night. I think the way the players prepare before the game is amazing, everybody knows what they need to do and the veteran guys, we just want the younger guys to feel good. We tell them, ‘be you, enjoy your time in Texas, go out there and have fun.’ It’s just a game and I know we get paid but at the same time, it’s just a game and we have to have fun.
Let’s go back to when you were first here with the Rangers. There might be a given start where an error or some bad luck happens on the field, and then things would go sideways. Is there something you’ve learned over the past few years to mitigate that kind of damage? “I remember when I was 23, 24, and I would give up a couple of runs and I would lose my mind, I would lose my focus and I would say ‘okay the game is over.’ But over the years, I learned that you’re never going to know if the game is over. It’s a nine-inning game, 27-outs. Something’s going to happen because we’re going to have a chance to hit the ball and score some runs too.
