Threads has grown steadily since its launch in July 2023, quickly dominating other X competitors like Bluesky and Mastodon. Helped by its integration with Meta’s Instagram, Threads quickly garnered over 100 million active users in its first three months.As X got in hot water with regulators, Threads advertised itself as a less politically edgy alternative.
Still, the newer app has only a fraction of the cultural relevance and daily users of X, which boasts around 250 million daily users and over 500 million monthly active users. Threads’ decision to de-emphasize news coverage has likely contributed to X’s top standing. The older platform remains a primary news outlet for millions of users.
