The NSW Liberal Party failed to nominate dozens of candidates for next month's local government elections, which the party's state director Richard Shields blamed on a lack of resources.
The announcement follows the party's failure to meet electoral deadlines to nominate candidates for a number of local government elections.
In a letter to state MPs seen by the ABC, Opposition Leader Mark Speakman described the debacle as "probably the worst act of mismanagement" in the party's history. Liberal Party sources said they believed there would be no candidates nominated for contests in Camden, Shoalhaven, Lane Cove, Northern Beaches, Blue Mountain, Wollongong and Campbelltown LGAs.
He said there were at least seven whole council areas and over 40 wards across probably a dozen councils where they either have not nominated candidates or not nominated enough candidates to get a box above the line. "I think it's just literally a matter of they had a lot of forms to fill in and submit, and they couldn't get them all done in time."Internal email reveals patients in hospital recovery units for longer as doctors ration IV fluids
