Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews is speaking out after a heartbreaking loss to the Buffalo Bills in Sunday's AFC Divisional Round game. Andrews fumbled a crucial pass late in the fourth quarter, giving the Bills the opportunity to secure their 27-25 victory and advance to the AFC championship. The play sparked intense online criticism and even threats towards Andrews. On Thursday, Andrews addressed the incident and the overwhelming support he received amidst the negativity.
'It's impossible to adequately express how I feel. I'm absolutely gutted by what happened on Sunday,' he wrote. 'I'm devastated for my teammates, my coaches and Ravens fans.' He emphasized his dedication to the game and his team, stating, 'I pour every ounce of my being into playing at the highest level possible, because I love my team and the game of football like nothing else. That is why it's taken me until now to collect my thoughts and address this publicly.'Despite the disappointment, Andrews vowed to use this adversity as fuel for growth. 'Even though the shock and disappointment are unlike anything I've felt before, I refuse to let the situation define me,' he added. 'I promise that this adversity will only make me stronger and fuel us as we move forward.' Andrews also expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, including a GoFundMe campaign started by a Bills fan that raised over $104,000 for Breakthrough T1D, a diabetes-focused nonprofit organization that Andrews supports. He concluded, 'Even when the moment seems darkest, perspective can reveal that there's still a lot of light in this world. I'm now going to do my part to bounce back and contribute to it.' Breakthrough T1D also thanked the Bills fans, stating that the funds will support research and advocacy for people living with type 1 diabetes.
