Allen the Alien putting his arm around Omni-Man in Invincible Season 4

There's no rest for Mark Grayson , especially when war is on the horizon. Just one day after sharing the first look at Season 4, Prime Video released the official trailer for Invincible's upcoming return, teasing the beginning of the long-anticipated battle with the Viltrum Empire.

After three seasons of build-up and one brutal, bloody battle with the all-powerful Conquest , it's time for the young hero to step up and face the greatest threat to Earth yet, alongside his fellow Guardians of the Globe, the Coalition of Planets, and more. However, the horrors he's witnessed and the enemies he's already fought have left a mark on him forever that will lead him down a darker road this time around. The footage opens in the direct aftermath of the destruction waged upon Earth by the Invincible War and Conquest, with thousands dead and cities in shambles. Despite urgings from Debbie to take the night off for once, Mark feels he can't afford to take a break, not after his failure to kill Angstrom Levy led to the supervillain coming back and wreaking far more destruction. As seen in Season 3, he's decided that, to keep those he loves and innocent people safe, he'll be prepared to kill any enemies who threaten their lives. Cecil Stedman touted being"the guys who save the world," rather than the good guys, last season, yet even he knows that taking such action is not in Mark's nature deep down. It's a conflict of trauma that will define Invincible's personal growth in Season 4, as he tries to help Eve figure out what's messing with her powers and joins the Guardians of the Globe in reassuring the populace that Earth's heroes still stand for them. A few shots highlight the arrival of new threats to the planet about to make their debut from the comics, like Dinosaurus and Universa, voiced by Matthew Rhys and Danai Gurira. There's also a little sneak peek at Damien Darkblood and the forces of Hell arming up for a show-exclusive storyline that Robert Kirkman finally got to realize with Season 4. However, the focus of the trailer remains on Viltrum from the moment Omni-Man and Allen return home. Mark, understandably, still doesn't fully trust his dad, but the Coalition of Planets needs every bit of help against the ruthless Empire. Fortunately, they've bolstered their ranks significantly, with the previously-teased Space Racer and Tech Jacket among the new allies featured in the footage alongside familiar faces like Thaedus , Battle Beast , and a more grown Oliver. Even with their powers combined, there will be blood spilled and sacrifices made to stop the planet-conquering threat once and for all. 'Invincible' Season 4 Will Finally Introduce the Series' Big Bad Of course, the trailer couldn't close without a shot of Grand Regent Thragg, the leader of the Viltrum Empire, voiced by Foundation star Lee Pace, demanding that no one be left alive. Thragg's arrival at last marks the beginning of the Invincible's endgame, representing the ideal Viltrumite with power to rival that of Nolan and Battle Beast. At New York Comic-Con last year, Kirkman told Collider's Maggie Lovitt that he'll have a big role to play right away, too."I will say that he is in this season far more than you might expect, far sooner than you might expect it," he said."You are not going to be watching Season 4 going, 'I wish there was more Thragg.' You will, but there’s still going to be a lot." Pace adds to what looks to be an absolutely packed season of Invincible that is expected to pay off three seasons' worth of build-up for an otherworldly war. He, Gurira, and Rhys add to a voice cast that also features Jason Mantzoukas, Zazie Beetz, Grey DeLisle, Zachary Quinto, Chris Diamantopoulos, Ross Marquand, Khary Payton, Andrew Rannells, Kevin Michael Richardson, Ben Schwartz, Jay Pharoah, Mark Hamill, and Melise, among others. Season 4 will have quite the streak to live up to, though, with Season 3 continuing the series' success with a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and Critics' Choice and Emmy nominations. Kirkman is back at the helm alongside executive producers Rogen, David Alpert, Simon Racioppa, Margaret M. Dean, Catherine Winder, and Evan Goldberg.
