Democratic Rep. Daniel Goldman of New York interrupted Greene and called for a motion to have her comments stricken from the official committee record. He also asked that Greene not be allowed to speak for the remainder of the meeting. The committee's chair, Republican Rep. Mark Green of Tennessee, asked Greene if she would be willing to voluntarily remove her comments from the record, to which she replied, “No, I will not.
The committee stopped action for several minutes as Green reviewed rules and decided what to do next. Ultimately, Greene's comments were not removed from the official committee record, which is unusual even in today's political climate. Remarks about other lawmakers are typically seen as uncouth in official proceedings. Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson of Mississippi said as much in his comments shortly after the chair's decision to not remove Greene's comments from the record.
