The Georgia Republican rejected a series of spending bills earlier this month that included funding for seven different projects in her district.
Two days after President Joe Biden signed a handful of government spending bills into law on March 9, Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene sent out a press release detailing the funding amount she 'secured' in the measures for projects within her district.
The release failed to mention, however, that Greene, a Republican, voted against the passage of the federal funding bills that are granting her constituents the money.Congressional leaders on both sides of the aisle worked to bring the package of six spending measures—called a minibus—to Biden's desk amid months of political wrangling and continuing resolutions. An additional slate of funding bills will still have to pass by March 22 to avoid a partial government shutdown. The $460 billion package that was passed includes funding for the departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Justice, Veterans Affairs, Energy, Interior, Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development. Spending was also approved for the Food and Drug Administration, military construction endeavors and a handful of other federal programs.According to a press release from Greene's office on March 11, the packages also included funding for seven projects in northwest Georgia, which the congresswoman had requested through the Community Project Funding process. In total, roughly $9.3 million in federal funding is heading toward improving Greene's district, thanks to the spending measures.Greene's office said in the release that the congresswoman was 'proud to announce that she has successfully secured federal funding' after she 'meticulously sought out projects that would improve quality of life, increase economic and social development, assist localities with vital funding needs, and harness community support.'A total of 83 Republicans and two Democrats voted against the minibus on March 6. The measures passed the chamber with 339 votes split across both parties. The Senate approved the package two days later with a 75-22 vote.Greene told Newsweek after voting that there 'was no reason to vote on a minibus' and pointed a finger at members of her party for supporting the measures.'The Republicans promised the American people no more omnibuses, minibuses and CRs and well, here they did it,' she added. When reached for comment on Tuesday, Greene's office directed Newsweek to a statement the congresswoman made to X, formerly Twitter, after voting on the minibus, which she said was a 'higher' amount than what lawmakers had previously agreed upon.'And this bill didn't just increase spending, it gave Joe Biden and Chuck Schumer everything they wanted on their wish list, and that is something I'll always refuse to vote for,' Greene wrote.Other Republicans who rejected the minibus also later celebrated the funding that the measures will bring to their constituents, including Colorado Representative Lauren Boebert, who wrote in a press release on Monday that she 'can't wait for the ribbon cuttings' on the 10 projects that were signed into law as part of the spending bills.

Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., is attempting to co-opt the phrase 'Say Her Name,' widely used to raise awareness about Black women mistreated by police, by using it as a reference to a nursing student allegedly killed by an undocumented immigrant in Georgia. This is seen as a clear attempt to troll Black activists and incite anger toward nonwhite migrants entering the U.S. through the southern border.
