Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia has announced her resignation, effective January 5th, after five years in office. She cited feeling unwelcome in Washington D.C. and the personal toll her political role has taken, including time away from family. The announcement comes amidst reported tension with former President Donald Trump.

by JESSICA A. BOTELHO | The National News DeskRep. Marjorie Taylor Greene , R-Ga., speaks during a town-hall style meeting, Tuesday, April 15, 2025, in Acworth, Ga. in a 10-minute video she shared on social media on Friday night, adding that her last day will be January 5.

I have been blessed to represent the 14th district of Georgia for 5 years, which is filled with some of the most wonderful, kind-hearted, God-fearing, patriotic, hard-working people you will ever meet. Good regular common Americans," she wrote in a four-page statement accompanying the video. But she said she has "always been despised in Washington, D.C., and just never fit in." She also said her role in politics has cost her valuable time with her loved ones. I will never forget the day I had to leave my mother's side as my father had brain surgery to remove cancerous tumors in order to fly to Washington, D.C. to defend President Trump and vote NO against the Democrat's second impeachment in 2021. My poor father and my poor mother, it was way too much," Greene wrote.FILE - Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., waves while former President Donald Trump points to her while they look over the 16th tee during the second round of the Bedminster Invitational LIV Golf tournament in Bedminster, N.J., July 30, 2022. "It seemed to all begin when I sent her a Poll stating that she should not run for Senator, or Governor, she was at 12%, and didn’t have a chance . She has told many people that she is upset that I don’t return her phone calls anymore, but with 219 Congressmen/women, 53 U.S. Senators, 24 Cabinet Members, almost 200 Countries, and an otherwise normal life to lead, I can’t take a ranting Lunatic’s call every day," Trump wrote on Truth Social last week. Trump also recently referred to her as Marjorie "Traitor" Greene and Marjorie Taylor "Brown." He also said she is "wacky" and "a disgrace" to the Republican party. "Lightweight Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Brown , betrayed the entire Republican Party when she turned Left, performed poorly on the pathetic View, and became the RINO that we all know she always was," he added in another post. "Just another Fake politician, no different than Rand Paul Jr. , who got caught being a full fledged Republican In Name Only !" In her video, Green underscored her longtime loyalty to Trump -- except on a few issues -- and said it was “unfair and wrong” that he attacked her for disagreeing. Loyalty should be a two-way street and we should be able to vote our conscience and represent our district’s interest, because our job title is literally ‘representative,’” she said. Greene was first elected to the House in 2020. She initially planned to run in a competitive district in northern Atlanta’s suburbs, but relocated to the much more conservative 14th District in Georgia’s northwest corner.Four ex-correctional officers sentenced for death of Robert Brooks Four former Marcy Correctional Facility officers were sentenced Friday for their involvement in the beating death of inmate Robert Brooks.Rochester tire shop's future in doubt after fire Rochester, N.Y. — For the second time in less than a year, a tire shop on Rochester's north side is dealing with the impact of a fire.
