The Mariners have the most strikeout-prone lineup in baseball and we expect Jack Flaherty to take full advantage of that fact tonight.
Seattle has been particularly woeful against right-handed pitching with a 28.4% K-rate and .208 BA across the last 15 days. We only have to look back to Monday when we witnessed Gavin Stone strike out 10 Mariners across seven innings while allowing just two hits and two walks. on Wednesday night, so it’s likely Seattle’s fortunes turn around later rather than sooner. The veteran is having a standout campaign with a 3.06 ERA and a career-high 11.5 strikeouts per nine innings.
I’m not looking at Tuesday’s performance — when Walker Buehler notched a lone strikeout across four innings — as some sort of turnaround for the Mariners. I noted in my preview for that game that Buehler has been flat-out unable to fool opposing hitters in his return to the mound this season with a paltry 7% swinging strike rate heading into the contest.
I do fancy the Dodgers, though, and they've dominated their PNW counterparts by winning eight straight.
