A prominent Yankees’ trade deadline target is off the board.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan reportedCastillo is widely viewed as the top available starting pitcher at this year’s deadline. The 29-year-old is in the midst of a stellar campaign, posting a 2.86 ERA with 90 strikeouts across 85 innings. Adding to his appeal, Castillo, a two-time All-Star, is under contract through the 2023 season. Castillo will fortify a Seattle rotation in need of depth and front-line pitching, complementing second-year standout Logan Gilbert and left-handed flame-thrower Robbie Ray.
The Mariners are infamous owners of the longest postseason drought among all teams in the four major American sport leagues, having last made the postseason in 2001. With a current record of 54-46, Seattle is in possession of the second AL Wild Card spot, trailing the first-place Houston Astros by 11 games in the AL West.
, the Reds are acquiring Noelvi Marte, Levi Stoudt, Edwin Arroyo and Andrew Moore, a package that includes three of Seattle’s top five prospects, per MLB Pipeline.
