MARINA probes illegal Chinese dredgers

After inter-agency maritime surveillance from the National Coast Watch Center (NCWC) detected 'suspicious' dredging outside the ships' permitted areas in Manila Bay, MARINA is investigating six Chinese vessels.

The Maritime Industry Authority is conducting a probe on six Chinese vessels after inter-agency maritime surveillance from the National Coast Watch Center alerted the agency about “suspicious” dredging outside the ships’ permitted areas in Manila Bay.

Also, the vessels don’t even have an environmental compliance certificate from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Mines and Geosciences Bureau . Furthermore, the Chinese dredgers failed to secure a “No Objection Clearance” from the Office of the National Security Adviser, according to MARINA.

In addition to these issues, the Chinese dredgers are operating with false Automatic Identification System .
