LONG BEACH — Marina’s girls soccer team hadn’t allowed a goal through four playoff games and only one goal over its past seven games heading into the CIF Division 3 championship against Moorpark on Saturday at Long Beach City College.
Zaina Barakat scored the golden goal five minutes into overtime to win the game for Moorpark , the No. 3 seed. Minutes later, Vo made another leaping save on a high-arcing shot from Brielle Bickham from 40 yards out.But in the 21st minute, the Musketeers finally got one past Vo when Kamryn Beavers, who was flat on her back in the middle of a scrum off of a corner kick, knocked the ball into the goal.
With five minutes remaining in the half, the Vikings tied the score when Riley Crosby scored on a high-arcing shot from 30 yards out.“We got some confidence and got some energy from it,” Oberle said of the goal.“We’d rather be going in as CIF champs but I think for the seniors it’s great,” Oberle said. “It’s another opportunity to come out. I told the seniors to be proud of the journey and what we’ve accomplished.
