The lawsuit states that Jane Doe's mother informed Clara Rivera about the abuse, who promised to investigate but allegedly covered it up. The lawsuit further alleges that the Riveras, who are pastors at the church, isolated and intimidated Jane Doe to remain silent about the abuse to avoid any potential scandal for the church and the summer internship program. It also claims that the church paid for Jane Doe to attend a summer internship in Florida, where she allegedly shared a dorm with other children without parental supervision. The lawsuit states that Jane Doe was repeatedly sexually assaulted by another older camper in the dorm and the shower.When Jane Doe's mother reported the abuse to Clara Rivera again, the lawsuit claims that the Riveras, despite traveling to the camp and gathering more information, did not report the allegations. They allegedly continued to isolate and intimidate Jane Doe, encouraging her silence. The lawsuit states that Jane Doe suffered further sexual assault by the same individual later that summer at a barbecue at the Riveras' home in Rye, New York. In 2021, Jane Doe alleges she was repeatedly sexually assaulted by a male church employee, a youth leader, who forced her into explicit electronic communication of a sexual nature until he was caught by her mother. The lawsuit asserts that the adults involved, including the Riveras and the church, failed to protect Jane Doe from harm and lacked adequate policies and procedures to prevent such abuse. It claims that Jane Doe suffered lasting physical, psychological, and emotional injuries as a result of the alleged assaults. Jane Doe and her mother are seeking compensation and punitive damages. This case is not isolated, as Assemblies of God affiliates have faced similar allegations recently
