Spiritual teacher and author Marianne Williamson has announced her run for the Democratic nomination in 2020. Her mission to return America to a country where humanitarian values hold precedence over economic ones will test whether a message of love can transcend the politics of fear.
“Too many politicians are just addressing the symptoms of our political crisis. I will address both the symptoms,” she shared in an impassioned plea during our. We ask ourselves ‘Do I want this?’ when we should be asking ‘What is the right thing to do? What is my responsibility in this situation?’”
Our exchange illuminated Williamson's passion for emboldening people to step into their power as change makers and use their gifts for the highest good. A value she wants to reignite in her fellow Americans. who passed away last August after a distinguished career that often put him at odds with his own party. The two would have undoubtedly disagreed on many issues. Yet they are both values-driven leaders who possess moral courage, heartfelt compassion for human suffering and a deep-seated desire to serve a cause greater than self-interest - all virtues people yearn to see more of in those accorded the privilege, power and responsibility to lead change.
Will love win out over fear in a political system that seems to so richly reward those who are most masterful in manipulating fear in their favor? Time will tell. Certainly,
