When construction is complete, there will be ten apartments, a common area, a laundry room and a sensory garden.
The apartments are expected to be completed in 2025.DOTHAN, Ala. - NextStep at Endeavor Academy is adding another program to guide students toward a life of independence.The program is comprised of 34 courses and takes two years to complete.
School officials said this will give students the experience of living on their own while attending NextStep. “Those 34 courses are going to be best taught if you‘re actually living on your own while you’re learning with us,” NextStep Director Tammy Dasher said.“Our goal is that they will live in their apartment during their two-year program and, when they leave NextStep, and when they leave the Transition Academy, they will be equipped to live in the community of their choice,” Dasher continued.
The goal of the program is to give young adults with autism a learning experience that teaches the intricacies of adulthood. Currently, the school has a ‘mock’ apartment where students practice skills like cooking, cleaning and doing laundry.
