Mariah Carey sued by writer of another song named 'All I Want for Christmas Is You'

One lawyer says a $20-million suit over Mariah Carey's Christmas hit 'does not bode well' for plaintiff Andy Stone, who wrote a song of the same name.

Thanks to her seasonal blockbuster “All I Want for Christmas,” Mariah Carey has become this century’s Bing Crosby, the entertainer who soundtracks the holiday.Stone “has major hurdles in the way of winning any damages,” attorney Michael Peters of“Upon listening to the two songs at issue, any layperson can probably tell that a comparison of the music and lyrics does not bode well for any damages being awarded to Stone,” said Peters, who specializes in entertainment law.

The rest, he said, depends on “how the jury receives the parties’ respective musicologists’ analysis and testimony if this goes as far as trial.”
