Delaware girls basketball coach Erin Margraf hasn't coached a game in her second stint with the program as her daughter battles Burkitt lymphoma.

When Erin Margraf stepped away from coaching the Delaware Hayes girls basketball program following the 2012-13 season, she did so because of her family.

Ella is the second of four children of Erin and Nick Margraf. Her sister, Cameron, is 10, and she has 6-year-old twin brothers, Jackson and Dominic.Ella's battle has inspired Ella’s Fight Club, with family members, the school, the basketball program, the community and even opposing teams pitching in to raise funds for the family's medical expenses.

“It was overwhelming,” her mother said. “ was looking outside through the binoculars. She was Face-Timing with everybody and immediately started to cry. She’s not an emotional girl. She was sad because she couldn’t be out there with her cousins, but she was also happy to see them all together. “When I saw the support and how much my staff was willing to help me and the district has stepped up to support me and my family, there was no doubt that I need to return to school and to the basketball program when this is done.”Assistant coaches Aric Tucker, Chelsie Burden and Mark Thomas have been sharing head-coaching responsibilities in her absence. The Pacers are 2-3 overall and 2-2 in the OCC-Capital Division heading into a game Dec. 16 at Westerville South.

Senior post player Samantha Toney, who had 13 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots in a 39-38 win over Worthington Kilbourne on Dec. 9, said the team is responding well in Margraf’s absence.
