Mobile, Alabama, is gearing up for its biggest party of the year, Mardi Gras, and with the excitement comes the annual parking scramble. Demolition work at the Civic Center has reduced parking options, making it crucial for revelers to plan ahead. Authorities have warned of strict enforcement of parking regulations, with the threat of citations and towing looming.
With the snow long gone, there are signs the Boom Boom is about to return! Parade barricades are starting to go up along the parade route the last two days, getting revelers excited about the Port City’s biggest party of the year! “I usually like Joe Cain Day — like everyone else. But Crewe of Columbus is usually my favorite ball. All of my friends come to town for that one,” said Marleigh Robertson, Mobile . “These beads are real popular with the Mobile and 1703 on it.
This is a new bead that came out this year,” said Gary Owens, Owner Bienville Souvenir & Gifts. “They come in and say gotta have… gotta have… Gotta have this. It’s fun to see what everybody is looking for, that’s the fun part for me,” said Owens. Something else revelers could be looking real hard for this Mardi Gras — a parking spot. With demolition underway at the Civic Center, parking could very well be a challenge — at least for some. “I usually don’t have to worry about it — my dad lives down here — so I can usually park at his house. But I think for everybody else probably,” Lee: And they’re serious about the parking tickets. — Absolutely,” said Marleigh. Just how serious? — The purple and gold no parking signs are no joke! During the 2024 Mardi Gras season, Mobile Police issued 1,002 parking citations and towed away 407 vehicles — parked illegally. It has some people considering getting downtown early this year. “It’s most definitely going to be an issue this year due to limited spaces — so it’s basically a first come first serve basis on Mardi Gras parking,” said one woman. To accommodate revelers — the Alabama Cruise Terminal will be available for public parking on Mardi Gras days. And on the days when there are scheduled events at the cruise terminal, parking will be directed to the former RV City underneath the Interstate 10. It’s a flat-rate of $10 for all-day parking. Drivers can pay with a debit or credit card using the Premium Parking app or kiosk on site.
