Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Monday accused the U.S. Agency for International Development of “rank insubordination” through its use of taxpayer dollars.

“There are things that are happening at USAID that we should not be involved in funding or that we have a lot of questions about, but they are completely uncooperative,” he added. “So, we had no choice but to take dramatic steps to bring this thing under control.” "Every dollar we spend and every program we fund will be aligned with the national interest of the United States and USAID has a history of ignoring this and deciding that they’re a global charity and ignoring that,” he said. “These are taxpayer dollars.”The comments come as USAID faces scrutiny by the Department of Government Efficiency . The presidential advisory committee led by Elon Musk discovered and halted several wasteful payments from the agency, according to the White House.
