The North San Antonio district has traditionally been held by moderate Republicans, including former House Speaker Joe Straus.
Republican Marc LaHood held a very slim lead over Democrat Laurel Jordan Swift in Texas House District 121 after early voting and absentee ballots were reported on election night. LaHood, a defense attorney, had 42,606 votes to former medical device saleswoman Swift’s 39,016. No Election Day votes are yet included in that total, so his 52% to 48% lead could change significantly.
LaHood supports school vouchers, has argued the 2020 presidential election was stolen and said he wants to “bring back” prayer in schools. Gov. Greg Abbott sought to replace all Republican House members that voted against his plan to provide taxpayer funds for parents to send their kids to private schools, including Allison. The third-term governor visited the district several times to stump for LaHood and contributed nearly $800,000 to support him.
