Jon Post, a longtime Marana resident and former Vice Mayor, has been appointed to fill the vacant mayor position following the passing of Mayor Ed Honea. Council Member Roxanne Ziegler was appointed as the new Vice Mayor.
Jon Post was appointed to fill the vacancy in the town's mayor position at the town council meeting on Tuesday, January 7. The town council approved this unanimously. This comes after late Mayor Ed Honea passed away on November 22 last year. Post previously was serving as the town’s Vice Mayor . He had been serving in the vice mayor position since 2013.
His long-time friend and colleague, Honea, had just been re-elected as the town’s mayor in July and started his new four-year term shortly before his passing. Post says he hopes to keep Honea’s spirit alive.“When people talk about the spirit of Marana and how we retain the old town feel and how we continue to make Marana what it is, a lot of that was Ed Honea, is Ed Honea,” Post said. Post is a Marana native and is the owner of Post Farms and the Marana Pumpkin Patch. He will serve in the mayor position until a special election is held in 2026. The elected person will serve for the remainder of Honea’s term until 2028. With Post filling the role, Council Member Roxanne Ziegler, who has been on the council for almost two decades, was appointed as the town’s new vice mayor.“The way this happened, of course, I would’ve never thought to move up in that way. Jon was happy at Vice Mayor, I was doing well at council woman,” Ziegler said. However, she says she’s excited for this new role.“I’m very proud and honored to be Vice Mayor,” Ziegler said. “I want to thank the council and I hope the residents are good with this. Just looking forward to another two years.” Both she and Post say traffic issues are some of their top priorities.“I don’t take ‘no’ very well and so I push really hard and so I expect to, I expect people to see great things from the town,” Post said.
