Snow and frigid temperatures set in across the Tri-State Area on Saturday, the first day of winter.
NEW YORK -- Dangerously cold weather is taking hold across the Tri-State Area this weekend. Due to the very cold temperatures and windchills following a round of snow, Sunday and Monday are First Alert Weather Days. First day of winterWinter officially started at 4:20 a.m. Saturday. Right on cue, the first measurable snow of the season occurred in New York City.
Tonight and tomorrowSaturday night will be frigid with lows in the teens and single digits. Persistent gusty winds will have windchill values in the single digits and below zero. It gets even colder by Sunday. Despite full sunshine, highs will fail to make it out of the 20s for all locations. On Sunday night, lows plunge into the teens and single digits. A few sub-zero readings are even possible. The forecast low of 14 degrees in NYC would be the lowest low temperature since February 2023.
