98 Chibok Girls Still Held 9 Years After Abduction In Nigeria98 Chibok Girls Still Held 9 Years After Abduction In NigeriaNine years has passed since the devastating event when Boko Haram abducted 279 students from a girls' school in Chibok on April 14, 2014. 98 girls are still being held captive by the militants, and sadly, numerous abductions have occurred since then, reports Amnesty International. The girls were sleeping at their school, awaiting exams, when they were taken. The abduction sparked a global outcry and the rise of the BringBackOurGirls movement. Amnesty International has condemned the Nigerian authorities for their failure to protect children. "Since the Chibok school girls were abducted by Boko Haram, a plethora of schools have been targeted, with girls being abducted, raped, killed or forced into "marriage". The organisation said the Nigerian authorities have however not carried out a single credible investigation into the security failures that left children vulnerable to the atrocities committed by Boko Haram and gunmen. Amnesty has called for meaningful action to counter armed groups like Boko Haram, the safe return of the remaining Chibok girls, and that Justice be served for perpetrators of these grave violations.
