Nine states are at risk of having millions lose Medicaid coverage if President-elect Donald Trump makes cuts while in office next year.The program, which provides health coverage to low-income Americans, could be one of the first things Trump's administration looks at cutting to save government money once Trump reenters office.More than 3 million Americans are at risk of immediately losing health coverage if that happens, according to health policy research organization KFF.
Today, around 20 million people are in Medicaid across the country due to the expansion.However, this is in jeopardy as Trump approaches his time in office as conservatives have long targeted Medicaid and the ACA as areas to cut government spending.There's still strong support for Medicaid's expansion, however, Beene said, so it could prove difficult for Republicans to actually cut the program so significantly.
