Several states have broken or tied heat-related records such as daily highs and all-time highs during an ongoing heat wave.
Several U.S. states have broken temperature-related records so far this month as a heat wave grips the nation. As of Wednesday morning, roughly half of the states were under either a National Weather Service heat advisory or an excessive heat warning. Much of the heat was clustered on the Western and Eastern coasts and comes as many states, such as California, Utah and others, have already been exposed to extreme heat for days without relief.
California:Many cities in California have broken temperature records, including daily highs on Saturday in Sacramento City at 113 degrees Fahrenheit, 8 degrees hotter than the previous record of 105 degrees set in 1989; Stockton with 111 degrees, beating the previous record of 106 degrees set in 1905; Redding with 119 degrees, beating the previous record of 111 degrees in 1984 and also beating the 118-degree all-time high-temperature record.
