Multiple places are set to see heat indexes in the 'danger' zone, the National Weather Service said.
The National Weather Service has released a map showing 'sizzling temperatures' hitting the country this week.Last week, southwestern states were under excessive heat warnings. Now, heat starting in the West is expected to move to the Midwest by Wednesday before spreading to the southern and eastern parts of the country.There are multiple severe heat warnings and watches in place for almost every day this week, with some places set to see highs of 100 to 107 degrees Fahrenheit.
On the heat index, the classification below 'danger' is 'extreme caution'—temperatures between 90 and 103 degrees—which is shown in orange on the map. People in places with this warning can expect 'heat stroke, heat cramps, or heat exhaustion possible with prolonged exposure and/or physical activity.'Temperatures between 80 and 90 degrees are classed as 'caution,' meaning 'fatigue possible with prolonged exposure and/or physical activity.
