Unexplained fires have ripped through strategically important facilities in Poland, Germany, the U.K. and Lithuania recently.
Fires that broke out in Germany and Denmark this week are the latest unexplained blazes hitting sites in NATO countries recently.On Thursday, a scrap metal facility in Hamburg's port area ignited a day after the fire department in Copenhagen said it had brought under control a fire at an office building belonging to pharmaceutical firm Novo Nordisk.
Dark smoke could be seen rising from the complex, located in the Lichterfelde neighborhood, where the chemicals sulfuric acid and copper cyanide were stored, according to German news outlet Deutsche Welle.The newspaper Berliner Zeitung said that the fire started on the first floor of the plant and quickly spread to higher levels, engulfing an area of over 2,100 square feet.
