Manchester City beat Newcastle United 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium with Foden impressing again in the absence of Kevin de Bruyne
Manuel Akanji has backed Phil Foden to fill the void left by Kevin de Bruyne's injury at Manchester City.
Team-mate Akanji believes it's a role he can perform well. He also discussed his adaptation in the 'John Stones role' against Newcastle, stepping into midfield to give extra protection in possession, in front of the back four. "Hopefully it keeps getting better like this. I think Phil is so good, especially in midfield with his back towards goal. The way he turns, moves between the spaces, that’s what we saw again today so hopefully he can keep doing that this season."
