Amanda Jenkins, a lunch lady in Manti, Utah, is using her knitting skills to spread holiday cheer and healing after the tragic loss of her son.
A Manti lunch lady, Amanda Jenkins, and her group of friends and family are spreading holiday cheer while helping Amanda heal from the tragic loss of her baby son, Ammon, six years ago. They've donated over 400 hand-knit beanies to all the students, teachers, and staff at Manti Elementary School. The gifts have made a big difference, reminding everyone of the true spirit of Christmas. Amanda's mother-in-law encouraged her to do something good for others after Ammon's passing in 2018.
Amanda learned to knit beanies for babies at local hospitals and has been continuing the tradition ever since. She started making Christmas beanies last year and it helps make the holidays a little brighter. Amanda approached the school principal, David Ipson, about donating the beanies this year. Ipson was thrilled and welcomed the idea. At a special assembly last week, Amanda distributed the beanies to the students. The kids cheered loudly and have been wearing them everywhere. Principal Ipson says it's amazing to see the impact of one act of kindness
