The Philippines and China agreed on an arrangement for the conduct of future rotation and resupply missions to BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal in West Philippine Sea , Department of Foreign Affairs said on Sunday.
DFA said this was achieved after a series of consultations following the frank and constructive discussions between both nations during the 9th Bilateral Consultation Mechanism on the South China Sea in Manila on July, 2 2024. The Philippine Navy earlier said that despite the conduct of BCM, Manila has yet to observe a concrete sign of de-escalation of tensions in the WPS.
A handful of Filipino troops are stationed on a rusty warship that was deliberately grounded on Ayungin Shoal in 1999 to assert Manila’s claims to the area.
