TRANSPORT group Malayang Alyansa ng Bus Employees and Laborers pushed through with the nationwide strike on Monday, October 16, 2023, as it condemned the alleged corruption within the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board .Along with the “tigil-pasada,” Manibela, which has around 200,000 members all throughout the Philippines, also staged a protest action in different parts of the country..
Manibela also reiterated its sentiment against the government’s Public Utility Vehicle modernization program, which aims to replace the traditional jeepneys with high-quality and environment-friendly vehicles with bigger capacity to ensure the safety of the commuters.The program also requires the consolidation of traditional jeepneys into a cooperative for the approval of their provisional authority for franchise in which the deadline was set on December 31, 2023.
