At least 12 people were wounded early Sunday when at least one gunman opened fire in a crowd on the Riverfront in Peoria, Illinois, police said.
Peoria Police Department spokesperson Amy Dotson told multiple media outlets that none of the injuries were considered to be life-threatening. An investigation was underway. Officers responding to the incident at about 4:42 a.m. local time found a gathering of about 200 people, Dotson toldTwo of the victims were transported by an ambulance to an area hospital; the others were transported by private vehicle, Dotson said.
No arrests had been made, and the investigation was continuing, she said. Police did not immediately respond to a USA TODAY request for details. Peoria, a city of more than 110,000 on the Illinois River, is about 150 miles southwest of Chicago. The Peoria Riverfront features art galleries, music venues, specialty shops and restaurants.
