Authorities are looking for four men who escaped from a minimum-security facility on Columbus' southeast side near Frebis Avenue. The escapees were identified through court documents Friday as Nikko Burton, Jeremy Bowen, Mark Long, and Michael Norton.
Documents say they broke a window, scaled a wire fence, and ran towards Frebis Avenue. Bowen was described as wearing a yellow shirt and blue pants, while the other three were in grey hoodies and blue pants. The Franklin County Sheriff's Office reported that they were first notified of the escape at approximately 9:20 p.m. on Thursday. There is a video of the escape, but investigators are not relating it, citing it as part of the investigation. The facility opened in 1993 and houses non-violent male offenders. It serves as a residential prison diversion program for adult males. Administrators provided few details about the escape when approached for comment. Investigations into the backgrounds of the four men revealed extensive criminal histories. Long was incarcerated for a theft charge, while the other three were serving sentences for parole violations. Security expert Tony Casper commented on the rarity of such an event in Franklin County. "It’s very unusual to happen in Franklin County, we have not had a jail break like this in a very long time," he said. "To see it happen in a minimum-security facility, that’s where it’s going to happen."
