Manhunt in Uganda after US tourist and driver kidnapped.
Four kidnappers stopped a group of tourists at gunpoint around dusk on Tuesday as they drove through the Queen Elizabeth National Park to see wild animals.
Police identified the American as a 35-year-old woman, and said the kidnappers had later used her mobile telephone to demand a ransom of $500,000 for the release of the pair. "The kidnappers, using the victim's phone, have demanded $500,000," police spokeswoman Polly Namaye said a statement."We strongly believe this ransom is the reason behind the kidnap."
Two other tourists, whom police described as an"elderly couple", were present when the gunmen attacked but were not abducted or physically harmed. They managed to raise the alarm from the lodge where they were staying."A joint operation by the Uganda police, Uganda People's Defence Forces and Uganda Wildlife Authority game wardens is under way to locate and rescue them," government spokesman Ofwono Opondo said.

This is likely to raise questions about whether we know the full extent of the financial relationship between his father, President Cyril Ramaphosa, and a company that has appeared to pay millions to senior ANC figures.

OPINIONISTA: Andile Ramaphosa’s ‘advisory’ work — and whether he could face prosecution for corruptionAndile Ramaphosa, son of President Cyril Ramaphosa, this week admitted that he received R2-million from corruption-linked company Bosasa. He claimed that the payments were made in exchange for ‘advisory’ work done by his company, Blue Crane Capital, on a series of more than 20 government and private contracts in Uganda and Kenya. He initially said these contracts were potentially worth ‘billions’ of rand, but later retracted this claim. This raises the question of whether Andile Ramaphosa could face prosecution for corruption.
