The Mangaung SAPS are in search of a 16-year-old mother who allegedly left her newborn baby in an empty ward at a hospital in Mangaung in October.
Kareli said that on Tuesday, 30 October 2024, around 2 PM, a social worker was walking through the neonatal ward when she bumped into a newborn baby boy in one of the empty wards.
He added that the Mangaung police were summoned to the scene and a case of child neglect was opened for investigation. mentioned that the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit has taken over the investigation, led by Sergeant Nthabiseng Ranthako. Efforts to trace the mother were unsuccessful, as police were unable to confirm her whereabouts.
