Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim said on Wednesday that the club needs players like Marcus Rashford , the forward who recently told the press that he is ready for a new challenge . Rashford was left out of United's squad for Sunday's 2-1 victory over Manchester City, leading to widespread speculation about his future. On Tuesday, in an interview, Rashford even addressed the possibility of leaving the club.
“Personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps,” Rashford said, as quoted by journalist Henry Winter in a post on X. “When I leave, it will be without any resentment.” Amorim was diplomatic when asked if he wanted to keep Rashford at the club. “Of course, because this type of club needs great talents and he is a great talent,” the strategist said at a press conference. “So he just needs to perform at the highest level and that’s my stance. I just want to help Marcus.” Rashford, 27, is contracted until 2028. He is a graduate of United’s famous academy, which has produced many of its greatest players such as Bobby Charlton, George Best, Ryan Giggs and David Beckham. But he has struggled to find his form since 2023, when he signed his new contract — scoring only eight goals last season and losing his place in the England squad. He has scored three goals in six matches since November, when Amorim was appointed manager, but was substituted after 56 minutes last week in his last appearance against Viktoria Pilsen.
