'To be honest, It pushes us to do more, rather than sit back and just reap the rewards'
When the owners of 10 Tib Lane woke up to the news that acclaimed food critic Jay Rayner had reviewed their restaurant and bar, they couldn't quite believe it.
As well as describing the cooking at 10 Tib as "full of voluptuous pleasure" and "old-school sensibility", he said it should be held in the same high esteem as some of the city's very best restaurants including Climat, Higher Ground, Another Hand and Erst, thanks to its "eclectic small plates and a knowingly idiosyncratic drinks list".It was a major pinch-me moment for the three-storey restaurant and bar, which opened in the former Bock Biere site in July 2021.
But, with some hard graft, 10 Tib Lane then became a reality. Opening its doors amidst continuing lockdowns was certainly a challenge, but now, two years on, as they prepare to celebrate the milestone, Sophie feels like it was worth all the blood, sweat and tears. "We decided to dig in our heels and go for broke. Joe went into the Kitchen as a temporary head chef to take full control of our food offering.
This Thursday they'll be toasting their success - and with some very good company. To mark the special occasion a collaborative menu conjured up with some much-loved local suppliers will be available, alongside some cocktails devised by some of their favourite Manchester bars. It's been a very eventful two years for the venue, as well as Rayner's review they were also named in The Good Food Guide's top 100 Best Local Restaurants in Britain just last month, but Sophie and the team isn't taking anything for granted.
