Jamar Banks of Brooklyn has been arrested and charged with assault after allegedly stabbing two people in separate incidents on the New York City subway. Police say Banks approached both victims and initiated verbal disputes before stabbing them. Banks reportedly has a lengthy criminal history.

The next morning, an off-duty Metropolitan Transportation Authority employee was stabbed in the back and armpit with a knife on the Northbound 5 Train platform. Authorities alleged that Banks was the suspect as well in the second stabbing incident. The 47-year-old male victim was also approached by Banks before he initiated an argument, according to police. Banks again took off after the alleged attack.

The media outlet cited police sources who also said Banks has a history of mental illness and is frequent rider of the No. 2 and No. 5 subway lines.In December, a sleeping woman was set on fire while riding in a subway car. The murder suspect in that case was identified as, an an illegal immigrant who pleaded not guilty to the murder charge on Tuesday.
