Robert Mittendorf , 51, of Weber County , was swimming at the bay with his son near their boat when a sudden storm swept through the area, the Utah Department of Natural Resources said. The two were separated from their boat. Mittendorf 's son swam to shore to try to get a life jacket for his father, but Mittendorf had gone underwater and did not resurface, the DNR said.

Utah State Parks law enforcement rangers, along with the Willard City Police Department, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Division of Outdoor Recreation rangers, Utah Department of Public Safety, and Box Elder and Weber County Search and Rescue teams, are actively assisting in the search operation.Despite extensive efforts, the crews have not been able to find Mittendorf. The search remains ongoing.

"Always recreate with a buddy, wear your life jacket, and stay aware of weather conditions," the DNR said. "It's essential to be prepared with the appropriate safety gear and ensure someone knows your location and expected return time."
