In 2015, Tobolowsky filed a defamation suit against Aubrey and Vodicka, both of whom gave depositions in the two months before Tobolowsky was killed. They found a laptop where someone had searched Tobolowsky’s address, a synagogue he attended, the name of one of his children, “Walmart tracfone,” “burner phone” and “alibi definition,” according to the affidavit. The affidavit also noted Aubrey went to a dermatologist after the killing to have stitches removed from his back, and the dermatologist left a voicemail referencing a question Aubrey had asked about treatment for his burns.
