Edgar Maddison Welch , the man who fired an assault rifle at Comet Ping Pong pizzeria in Washington, D.C. in 2016, believing it was involved in a child sex ring conspiracy, was killed in an officer-involved shooting on Thursday outside of Charlotte, North Carolina. Welch was pulled over by police for a traffic stop when he was found to be armed and allegedly pointed a handgun at an officer during the interaction.
Welch was sentenced to four years in prison for the 2016 incident, where he fired shots at the restaurant based on the 'Pizzagate' conspiracy theory. The 'Pizzagate' theory falsely claimed that Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party were involved in a child sex trafficking ring run from the basement of Comet Ping Pong.
